Advancing science through academic rigor

Where interdisciplinary research meets scientific excellence, innovation, and responsible publication.

“If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it.” Albert Einstein

“I am among those who think that science has great beauty.” Marie Curie

Advancing the frontier of high quality research

Founded in February 2026, the Umbrella Research Group is an independent initiative dedicated to the intersection of materials design, mechanics, and applied science and engineering. Through rigorous research and interdisciplinary collaboration, we develop fundamental insights into high impact publications, addressing worldwide challenges in development and sustainability.

Founder & Leader

Dr Rodrigo José da Silva

R&D Engineer - Professor - researcher

RJS founded the Umbrella Research Group and supports its scientific direction, helping to coordinate collaborations and maintain the group’s open, non‑hierarchical approach. His role focuses on enabling collective work, ensuring technical rigour, and fostering an environment where contributions are valued for their substance rather than titles.

Our Mission

Our mission is to consolidate and articulate cutting-edge developments across experimental design, advanced materials, structural mechanics, and applied science and engineering, always with a commitment to scientific excellence, reproducibility, and responsible publication practices. We encourage our members to publish their work in reputable, peer-reviewed journals that uphold strong scientific and ethical standards, ensuring that the group’s contributions are shared through trustworthy and respected academic channels.

• Guide and support students and research fellows in the design of experiments to ensure reproducibility and results that align with those published in high-impact scientific journals.

• Provide detailed assistance in the meticulous documentation of methodologies employed, preparation of scientific imagery, and statistical analysis of data.

• Support the writing and submission process for research papers, with the aim of achieving publication in leading peer-reviewed journals.

• Facilitate strategic external collaborations by recommending group members for joint research initiatives, thereby supporting scientific advancement at other institutions.

Global Collaboration

We cultivate synergistic innovation through a global network of academic and industrial institutions where our members hold formal affiliations, advancing the frontiers of applied science and structural mechanics.

Visual Identity

Umbrella RG logo minimalist v1.png

The group’s visual identity draws inspiration from deployable structures and origami‑based engineering: systems that combine elegance, precision, and adaptability. The umbrella symbol represents unity, modularity, and structural intelligence: a shared space under which diverse disciplines converge.

Minimalist geometry, a bold black‑and‑white aesthetic, and the striking red “U” in the acronym “U.R.G” highlight the group’s unity through values of clarity, innovation, and purposeful design.
